United States Ambassador to Bangladesh
“If ever you doubt the magic of JAAGO and Volunteer for Bangladesh, simply pause for a moment and look into the eye of a young boy or girl, who for the first time ever, is sitting in a classroom, studying, and exploring, discovering, learning. In the twinkle of that child’s eye is a new found hope, a hope to grow, to develop, to be everything that God wants each of us to be. Unleashing this hope, this spirit is the magic of JAAGO and Volunteer for Bangladesh.
Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Government of the people’s republic of Bangladesh
"Bangladesh’s net enrollment rate for primary school enrollment is above 95. Female enrollment, low incidences of which were contributing to gender inequality, has now surpassed that of the males'. The Ministry of Primary & Mass Education is working with development partners, NGOs and other entities to reach our goal of universal enrollment. But this represents only one facet of our challenges. A massive challenge awaits in the form of constant, incremental improvement of the 'quality' of education. Some aspects of quality Education include: a) stronger, scientific curricula, b) better modes of instruction and knowledge-transfer, c) more intuitive testing methods and d) the systemic recognition of diverse talents and skills in students. I am pleasantly surprised by Jaago Foundation's model which includes, among other things, interactive 2-way learning methods, strong emphasis on the English and Bangla languages and provisions for extracurricular activities and counseling. Without a doubt, these innovative approaches can further quality, primary education in Bangladesh. Moreover, engagement of urban youth in teaching is likely to lead to a bridging of the social gap and help utilize our demographic dividend.
