Position Summary
The Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language instruction to underserved youth in a weekend-based after-school program. They will conduct lessons for two batches of students, ensuring an engaging, student-centered learning environment. This role involves teaching a total of 8 hours of classes per week (4 hours per batch) on Fridays and Saturdays. The teacher will also contribute to extracurricular activities, professional development, and program monitoring.

Job Responsibilities
Teaching & Instruction
- Conduct 4 hours of classes per batch every Friday and Saturday, totaling 8 hours of teaching per week.
- Deliver interactive lessons using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) methodologies.
- Enhance students’ proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English.
- Integrate U.S. cultural elements and global citizenship themes, such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and climate action, into lesson plans.
- Leverage technology and digital tools to enrich learning and build students’ digital literacy.
Classroom Management
- Foster a positive, student-centered learning environment that encourages active participation and mutual respect.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies, including group dynamics, community building, and addressing behavior challenges.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs and proficiency levels of students.
Professional Development
- Participate in pre-program Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions and ongoing professional development through the Access Teacher Community of Practice (CoP).
- Attend webinars, conferences, and training sessions to enhance teaching methodologies and knowledge of U.S. culture.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and refine instructional strategies.
Program Engagement
- Lead extracurricular activities, including off-site learning experiences, service-learning projects, and community initiatives, to complement classroom instruction.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure program quality and adherence to reporting requirements.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and participation in activities.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans, student assessments, and progress reports in a timely manner.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities conducted by JAAGO Foundation and the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.
Education
- Holds an applicable degree (e.g. TESOL, English, Second Language Acquisition)
- BA Pass/Equivalent/Bachelor’s degree/Masters in any discipline (preferably related to English or Education).
Experience
- Has high intermediate to advanced English. Communicates in English with ease and makes minimal errors in language. Understands questions and provides detailed responses.
- Has completed coursework related to teaching methodology/pedagogy.
- Has 3+ years of experience working with the student age group.
Skills and other competencies
Teaching Practice
- Provides examples of how they use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in the classroom.
- Describes useful classroom management strategies related to community building, grouping students, and addressing problem behavior.
Enhancement Activities
- Has some familiarity with U.S. culture and can describe how they would approach teaching students about U.S. culture.
- Can articulate the value of service learning and is eager to gain a deeper understanding of its application in the learning environment.
- Provides examples of how they incorporate technology into the classroom to enrich student learning and digital literacy.
