Position Summary

The Upazila Coordinator will be responsible for leading the implementation of project activities in Chagalnaiya, ensuring alignment with the objectives of the Rising Hope: Flood Recovery and Resilience Project. The role requires extensive experience in community mobilization, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on livelihood restoration, WASH, education recovery, and healthcare services. The coordinator will act as the primary liaison between the community, local authorities, and the project team, ensuring effective and timely delivery of project outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

A. Community Engagement and Mobilization:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders in Chagalnaiya.
  • Mobilize communities to participate in project activities, such as awareness campaigns, need assessments, and training sessions.
  • Ensure active engagement of local youth organizations, women’s groups, and volunteers in the project’s implementation.

B. Project Activity Coordination:

  • Lead the implementation of project activities, including livelihood restoration, WASH interventions, education support, and health services.
  • Ensure timely distribution of agricultural inputs, hygiene kits, educational materials, and medical services as per project plans.
  • Oversee logistics for community events, training, and distribution activities.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot field-level challenges to ensure smooth operations.

C. Training and Capacity Building:

  • Facilitate capacity-building sessions for community stakeholders, youth, and volunteers on topics such as disaster recovery, WASH, and education.
  • Provide on-the-ground support and mentorship to volunteers and community-based groups to enhance their involvement and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to assess the impact of training programs.

D. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of project activities and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Collect data on key indicators, such as the number of beneficiaries reached and outcomes achieved.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, and submit them to the Project Manager.

E. Advocacy and Local Partnership Building:

  • Advocate for the project’s goals with local government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.
  • Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and microfinance institutions to enhance project sustainability.
  • Promote the adoption of project outcomes, such as improved WASH practices and education continuity, within the community.

F. Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Identify potential risks, such as logistical challenges, cultural barriers, or weather-related disruptions, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with JAAGO’s policies and donor guidelines, maintaining accountability and transparency in all operations

Education

  • Bachelor’s/ Degree certified, Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in community engagement, project coordination, or related roles.
  • Prior experience working on flood recovery or resilience projects is strongly preferred.

Skills and other competencies

Skills:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple activities and stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in both English and Bengali; knowledge of local dialects is an advantage.
