Protecting Children's Right to Education: Our Commitment for World Children's Day
In a remote hill tract area of Bandarban, 9-year-old Zopari dreams of becoming a doctor. Despite her father being a struggling farmer and her family grappling with poverty, Zopari’s spark for learning refused to dim. But even though her aspirations were high, her opportunities were limited. Due to geographical barriers, Zopari did not have access to quality education. And this was not just the story of Zopari, but of hundreds of children like her who resided in that region.
As per the child safeguarding policy, the name or picture of the child has been changed.
To change this scenario, JAAGO stepped in. Today, Zopari attends the JAAGO Foundation Bandarban School, where she not only learns but thrives. Zopari’s story is a testament that every child, no matter the geographical or financial barriers, has the right to learn, dream and achieve. This World Children’s Day, JAAGO reaffirms its commitment to protecting children’s right to education.
Among the fundamental rights of every child is access to quality education—a right that transforms not only their lives but also their families and communities. At JAAGO, we envision a world where no child is denied this right due to poverty, location, or circumstances.
A Right, Not a Privilege
Education is a universal right, yet thousands of children in Bangladesh are deprived of it. Whether it’s the flood-prone haor regions, the rugged Chittagong Hill Tracts, or the remote areas of Teknaf, barriers such as poverty, geographical isolation, and societal challenges prevent children from accessing schools. JAAGO Foundation is committed to breaking these barriers, providing free-of-cost, quality education to children who would otherwise be left behind.
Since its inception, JAAGO has touched the lives of over 30,000 children across Bangladesh. With its innovative Digital School Program, JAAGO ensures that even children in the most remote areas can receive the same quality education as those in urban centres.
As per the child safeguarding policy, the name or picture of the child has been changed.
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
Education not only opens up minds but also opens doors to endless possibilities. Consider the story of Shanto, a young boy from Habiganj. Shanto’s mother worked at a tea estate and earned very little. As the whole family relied on his mother’s earnings, they could barely make ends meet. Education seemed like an unattainable luxury for Shanto. However, after enrolling at the JAAGO Foundation Habiganj School, Shanto’s world changed. Today, he excels in mathematics and aspires to become an engineer to ease his mother’s hardships and give back to his community.
These stories of transformation are a testament to the power of education. When children like Zopari and Shanto are given the tools to learn, they not only uplift themselves but also break the cycle of poverty that entraps their families.
Vision for the Future
At JAAGO Foundation, our work is more than just providing education; it’s about shaping a future where every child has the tools to dream and the opportunity to achieve. Through our dedicated efforts, we aim to build a society where education is accessible, equitable, and empowering for all children, regardless of their circumstances.
This World Children’s Day, we call on everyone—individuals, organisations, and communities—to join us in this mission. Let us work hand in hand to build a world where no child is left behind because every child deserves not just the right to education, but also the chance to shine.
How to Get Involved?
JAAGO offers a unique opportunity for individuals or organisations to make a meaningful impact in society. Through JAAGO’s Sponsor A Child program, one can sponsor the education of children from underprivileged backgrounds and help protect their right to education.
Since 2007, JAAGO has been operating schools all across Bangladesh and currently has 4500 underprivileged children enrolled at their school. Funding received from the Sponsor A Child program covers the costs of school fees, uniforms, books, and other necessary supplies for the children. The program relieves the financial burden on the child’s family and gives the child hope and a pathway to a brighter future.
