From Dreams to Reality: JAAGO Student Shurma receives full scholarship at ULAB
Shurma, one of the first batch students of JAAGO Foundation Rayer Bazar School has received a full scholarship at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). Shurma enrolled at JAAGO in 2007. Her father worked as a van driver and her mother was a housewife. Since early childhood, Shurma witnessed her family struggle to make ends meet due to her father’s limited income. But despite the financial challenges, her spirit remained unbroken.
Shurma never considered her father’s limited income an obstacle to achieving her dreams. She believed firmly that with hard work and determination, she could overcome any hurdle. Her resolve was further strengthened by the support she received from her sponsor parent through JAAGO’s Sponsor A Child program. This program, aimed at providing quality education to underprivileged children in Bangladesh, played a pivotal role in Shurma’s educational journey.
The Sponsor A Child program at JAAGO Foundation is designed to break the cycle of poverty by providing children with the resources they need to succeed. Sponsors contribute to the child’s education, covering costs for tuition, books, uniforms, and other necessities. This support allows children like Shurma to focus on their studies without the burden of financial constraints.
Determined to create a better future for herself and her family, Shurma continued her hard work and excelled in her studies. In 2020, she sat for her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam, a significant milestone in the Bangladeshi education system. Her hard work paid off, and she successfully passed the exam. This achievement motivated her even more. After the SSC exam, Shurma enrolled at Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College for her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams. Once again, her dedication bore fruit as she achieved a GPA of 5 and made everyone proud.
Shurma’s achievements did not go unnoticed. This year, she secured a full scholarship to study at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). This scholarship is the result of a strategic partnership between JAAGO Foundation and ULAB, which aims to provide deserving JAAGO students with access to higher education. Each year, one student from JAAGO is awarded this scholarship, and Shurma was the fortunate recipient for this year.
The impact of the Sponsor A Child program on Shurma’s life is evident. It provided her with the opportunity to pursue her dreams, free from the financial burdens that often hinder the educational aspirations of children from underserved communities. The program not only covered her educational expenses but also gave her a sense of security and motivation to strive for excellence.
Shurma’s journey from the classrooms of JAAGO Foundation to the halls of ULAB is a testament to the transformative power of education. It highlights the importance of community support in uplifting the lives of underserved children. By sponsoring a child, individuals can make a significant difference in a child’s life, helping them realise their true potential and contribute positively to their communities.
Beyond the beneficiary, the Sponsor A Child Education program leaves a mark on the lives of their families and their communities. When children like Shurma are given the opportunity to receive quality education, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their lives and the lives of their families. They become role models in their communities, inspiring others to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they may face.
Shurma extends her heartfelt gratitude to JAAGO Foundation and ULAB for their unwavering support. She also expresses deep appreciation for her sponsor parent, whose generosity has been instrumental in her success. Shurma hopes to make her school, all her teachers, her sponsor parent, and her parents proud.
